Workshops/Consultation

In addition to my presentations at academic and professional conferences, I can often be available to lead professional development workshops for faculty or interactive workshops for students on topics including:

  • academic writing
  • genre-based writing pedagogy
  • collaborative writing
  • oral and written communication support for (post-)graduate students
  • English for Academic Purposes: needs analysis, pedagogy, and program design (for undergraduate and/or graduate students)
  • grammar for academic, research, and/or professional writing
  • using online corpora for language teaching and learning
  • responding to ESL/multilingual writers (for mainstream/disciplinary faculty)

I have facilitated workshops on these topics for:

  • University of Maryland English Language Institute
  • University of Trento, Italy
  • University of Delaware (English Department, English Language Institute, and teacher-training programs)
  • Westminster Theological Seminary, PA
  • George Mason University (INTO Mason)
  • Northern Virginia Community College, American Culture and Language Institutes (system-wide)
  • Howard Community College English Language Center, Columbia MD
  • Kansas State University
  • St. Andrew’s University, Scotland
  • Oxford University Press (professional development webinar, Oct 2014, archived online here)

While I prefer to work face-to-face, I occasionally speak via webinars. Please contact me to discuss arrangements!
